Drachm (Silver, 29 mm, 4.16 g, 3 h), LD (Ray). ‘wlhl’n MLKA’ = ‘Wahrām šāh’ (‘King Bahram’ in deteriorated Pahlavi) Draped bust of Bahram V to right, wearing an elaborate crown with a great korymbos in crescent on top; two ribbons rising from behind the crescent. Rev. Fire altar with ribbons, flanked by two attendants; to right and left, ‘ʾtwly – wlhl’n’ = ‘ādur Wahrām’ (‘Fire of Bahram’ in deteriorated Pahlavi); to the left of the flames, ‘LD’ = ‘Ray’ (‘Ray’ in Pahlavi); a cescent to the right of the flames; on the altar shaft, ‘lʾst’ = ‘rāst’ (‘true’ in deteriorated Pahlavi). Göbl type I/1. SNS III/1, type Ib2/1. Fresh and attractive. Struck from somewhat corroded dies and with a minor flan fault at the edge, otherwise, good extremely fine.
